Every Thursday 7:00 to 9:30 pm

We normally charge £5 per session but we are keen to encourage new fencers, so you are welcome to come along and give it a try for free.

You will be moving around a lot so sensible footwear is essential. Trainers, squash shoes or tennis shoes are all fine.

For safety reasons fencing is not allowed with bare legs. Tracksuit bottoms are the best thing to wear, but whatever you wear, your legs must be covered.

It can get quite warm whilst wearing your fencing kit, so wear a t-shirt and bring a drink, preferably in a resealable container in case it gets knocked over.

Injuries are very rare and tend to be the type of injuries you see in any fast moving, non-contact sport, i.e. sprains & strains.

In order to keep injuries rare, the right equipment must be used.

We provide the following eqiupment for all beginners:

Sword - The modern fencing sword has a flat tip and is designed to bend on impact.

Jacket - These are made of special material, designed to protect the wearer.

Under Plastron - This is a half jacket that covers the sword arm and chest. The seams are offset with those of the jacket for maximum safety.

Chest Protector - These are made out of plastic and shaped for women. They provide valuable protection against bruises.

Glove - These are padded to protect against hits to the hand and make holding the sword a lot more comfortable. They have a long sleeve to ensure that the sword can not go up the arm of your jacket.

Mask - The most important piece of safety equipment. This protects the face and neck. It is made of steel mesh but after a few minutes you will not even know you are looking through it.

Don't worry if you wear glasses, these can be worn under your mask.

We realise fencing is something most people have not done before so we would be happy to speak to you if you want any further information. Our contact details are here.
